What are Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs)?

Have you ever considered the difficulties that hearing impaired persons experience when using the telephone, watching tv, waking up on time or trying to hear a symphony? Assistive listening devices often help ease these frustrations.

Special telephones are available that make speech sounds louder and clearer. These telephones have a bright light that blinks, a louder ring, and reset to normal tones when the receiver is replaced so they can be used by the entire family. In addition to amplified telephones there are small portable amplifiers that can plug into an existing phone line for additional help.

TV Ears come with a wireless headset to use while watching television. (Finally there is a system that allows you and your family to enjoy tv together, comfortably!) These devices can also be used in movie theaters and concert halls that have a receiver installed. Recently, Hearing Health Care Centers donated TV Ears to the New Mexico Symphony for people with hearing difficulties to use at no charge.

Another great assistive listening device is a special alarm clock. This clock allows the user to select a louder alarm, flashing lights, and/or pulsating vibrations. It comes with larger numbers, a battery back up for power outages and snooze control.

These great assistive listening devices are hearing aid compatible and available at any of our offices.
